Masala idli

Masala idli

This is a tasty recipe which can be prepared using idli. When you are bored with normal idli, this can be a change for you. It can be an evening snack when there is leftover idli from the morning breakfast.

Ingredients :
  • Leftover idli - 6
  • Oil - 1 table spoon
  • Chana dal - 2 teaspoons
  • Curry leaves - 1 strand
  • Byadagi
  • Hing - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Tomato - 2 medium sized
  • Onion - 1 medium sized
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - according to taste
Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 2

Method:
Step 1. In a thick bottomed frying pan, roast chana dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves, hing, red chilly, mustard seeds in oil.

Step 2. When mustard splutters, add turmeric powder and saute well.


Step 3. Add chopped onion and saute well, till onion changes its colour.



Step 4. Now add chopped tomato and saute till raw smell of tomato disappears.



Step 5. Add salt according to taste. Add sugar. Mix well. Turn off the stove and allow it to cool for few minutes.


Step 6. Once the cooked mixture cools, blend it to fine paste.

Step 7. In a frying pan, on MEDIUM FLAME pour blended paste and add 1/2 cup of water.


Step 8. Boil for two to three minutes.


Step 9. Meanwhile chop the leftover idli into cubes.



Step 10. Pour cubed idli to frying pan (boiling mixture).


Step 11. Mix carefully and uniformly.


Step 12. Close the lid for one to two minutes and turn off the stove.


Step 13. Enjoy!
