Green Tomato Chutney / tomato kayi chutney

  • Unripened tomato - 4 to 5 small to medium sized
  • Onion - 1 medium sized
  • Garlic - 3 to 4 cloves
  • Green chilly - 1 to 2
  • Salt - according to taste
  • Sugar / Jaggery - 1 to 2 teaspoon
  • Oil - 2 teaspoons

Step 1. Wash and chop all ingredients.

Step 2. In a thick bottomed kadai, on LOW flame heat oil. Add crushed garlic and chopped green chilly. Fry till garlic changes its color.

 Step 3. Add chopped onion and fry for few minutes.

 Step 4. Now add chopped tomatoes. Mix well.

Step 5. Fry till raw smell of tomato disappears.

 Step 6. When tomato changes its color then add salt and jaggery/sugar. Mix well.

 Step 7. Turn off the stove. Allow it to cool.

 Step 9. Blend the fried tomato mixture to fine paste.


Step 10. Enjoy with chapati or rice.
