Bottle gourd kofta curry / sorekayi kofta curry
This is a very tasty North-Indian recipe. I recommend you to try it.


Ingredients: 1 cup = 250 ml
For kofta:
  • Bottle gourd - 2 (medium)
  • Besan flour - 3/4 cup
  • Coriander leaves - fistful
  • Coriander powder - 1 tspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 tspoon
  • Red chilly powder - 1/2 tspoon
  • Hing - 1/4 tspoon
  • Oil - for deep fry
  • Salt - as required
For gravy:
  • Oil - 1 tbl spoon
  • Onion - 1
  • Ginger - 1 inch
  • Garlic - 3 to 4 cloves
  • Tomato - 1
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 tspoon
  • Garam masala powder - 1/2 tspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tspoon
  • Red chilly powder - 1/4 tspoon
  • Salt - as required
  • Coriander leaves - fistful
Method:
Step 1. Wash and remove the outer skin of bottle gourds. Grate bottle gourds.

Step 2. Cook grated bottle gourd with 1/2 cup of water for 10 minutes. Check whether it is cooked or not, using your fingers (be careful). Allow it to cool.


Step 3. Drain water.

Step 4. Add besan flour (3/4 cup), coriander powder (1 tspoon), cumin powder (1 tspoon), red chilly powder (1/2 tspoon), salt (add more than what you normally use), coriander leaves to cooked and drained bottle gourd. Then mix well.




Step 5. Make small balls (pakoda/kofta) and deep fry. Fry all sides on low flame. 

Step 6. After preparing pakoda(kofta), keep aside.


For gravy preparation:
Step 1. Grind onion (1), ginger (1 inch)and garlic(3 to 4) together without adding water. Grind into a coarse paste.

Step 2. Grind chopped tomato along with coriander powder (1/2 tspoon), cumin powder (1/2 tspoon), garam masala powder(1/2 tspoon) and red chilly powder (1/4 tspoon).  Grind into a coarse paste and add turmeric powder (1 tspoon), mix well.



Step 3. In a thick bottomed kadai, heat oil (1 tbl spoon).
Step 4. When oil heats then add onion+ginger+garlic paste and saute well till its colour changes.


Step 4. Now add tomato paste and saute till its raw smell disappears.


Step 5. Add 2 cups of water and mix well. Allow it to boil.


Step 6. Now add prepared pakoda (kofta) to curry.  mix well carefully.

Step 7. When gravy thickens, saute carefully. Taste curry for salt, if needed, add more salt. Also add fistful of coriander leaves, switch off the stove. That's it!
