Kokam rasam / punarpuli rasam


Ingredients:

  • Dry kokum - 5 to 6 pieces
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspoon
  • Jaggery - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - for taste
  • Tomato - 1
  • Onion - 1 small
  • Rasam powder - 1/2 tspoon


For seasoning:

  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspoon
  • Curry leaves - 4 to 5
  • Garlic - 3 to 4 cloves
  • Oil - 1 tspoon



Method:

  1.  Wash kokum. Then soak kokam for 10 minutes in 3 cups of water in a vessel.
  2. Then to this vessel, add chopped tomato, onion, green chillies, turmeric powder,  jaggery, salt. Place it on gas stove on medium flame and allow it to boil.
  3. When it boils, add rasam powder and boil for 5 more minutes. Turn off the stove.
  4. Season it with garlic, mustard seeds and curry leaves in oil.
