Uttappam

Uttappam

Like talippittu, uttapam is dosa with vegetables in it.

Ingredients: 1 cup = 100 ml


  • Dosa rice - 1  cup sona masuri + 1 cup dosa rice
  • Urad dal - 1 cup
  • Methi seeds - 1 tspoon
  • Avalakki - 1/4 cup
  • Tomato
  • Onion
  • Green chillies
  • Coriander leaves
  • Curry leaves (optional)
  • Salt - according to tatse
Preparation time - 2 hours (soaking) + 8 hours (fermentation) + 20 minutes (dosa preparation)
Total time : 10 hours 20 minutes
Yield : 5

Method:

Step 1. Soak both types of rice (sona masuri rice +dosa rice) together along with methi seeds (at-least 2 hours). And soak urad dal separately (at-least 2 hours).



Step 2. Grind urad dal separately, and (rice + avalakki) separately and mix the batter. Keep it for fermentaion for 8-10 hours (overnight).









 Step 3. Next day, cut vegetables finely. Add salt to batter and also a pinch of salt over chopped vegetables.

 Step 4. Spread dosa on hot tawa. It should be thick dosa.

Step 5. Spread vegetables uniformly.


Step 6. Press it lightly.

Step 7. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil (or ghee or any other oil of your choice).

Step 8. Close lid for a minute.

Step 9. Flip sides. Cook for a minute.



Step 10. Enjoy it with chutney.
