Papaya Idli


Papaya Idli
This was an experiment that I tried. Good thing was that it was not a failure, even though it was not a complete success. I thought papaya was sweet enough, so added little less jaggery. Otherwise it was tasty.

Ingredients: 1 cup = 250 ml


  • Dosa/Idli rice-about 1 cup
  • Papaya- around 2 cups of papaya pieces
  • Grated coconut -1/2 cup
  • Jaggery/Bella -3/4 cup ( I used only 1/4 cup and it was not sweet enough)
  • Ghee- 1 teaspoon
  • Cardamom 4


Yields 12 idlis.

Method:

Step 1. To prepare idli rava at home: soak dosa rice for about 1 hour (minimum 1 hour), then dry it for about 15 minutes on a cloth. Later, dry roast it for 5 minutes on low flame. Then
powder it into idli rava (coarse as idli rava).





Step 2. Grind Papaya without water into a paste.




Step 3. Grind grated coconut with water.




Step 4. Mix these two(papaya+grated coconut) in a pan. Add jaggery. Keep it in low flame for 5 minutes. Keep stirring.





Step 5. Add idli rava in little quantities while stirring it. Keep it in low flame for another 5-10 minutes. Add ghee and cardamom powder.

Step 6. 
Prepare idli after greasing idli plates with oil or ghee. Cook for 15 minutes in idli cooker.





Step 7. Enjoy!
