Palak Huli is tasty and also nutritious.
Ingredients : 1 cup=100 ml
- Palak-250 gms
- Tomato-1
- Tur dal-3/4 cup
- Grated coconut- 3/4 cup
- Tamarind- small lemon sized ball
- Salt
For sambar masala:
- Byadgi Red Chillies-2
- Coriander seeds-2 teaspoons
- Mustard- 1 teaspoon
- Cumin- 1 teaspoon
- Methi/fenugreek seeds- 1/4 teaspoon
- Cloves- 2 (Optional)
- Curry leaves- 5-6
- Hing powder-3/4 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder- A pinch
Method:
Step 1: Wash palak after adding a spoon of salt in water.
Step 2: Wash tur dal, soak it in a cup of water in the cooker. Add a pinch of turmeric and hing. Keep it for about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Meanwhile, chop palak. Add it to the cooker where tur dal is soaked. Cook it for 5-6 whistles.
Step 4: Temper in a spoon of oil: red chillies, coriander seeds, mustard, cumin seeds, methi seeds, curry leave, hing powder till mustard sputters. Add a pinch of turmeric powder at the end.
Step 6: Grind grated coconut with roasted spices (from step 4). Add it to the vessel. Add salt and sugar(1 teaspoon). Keep it on low flame for 10-15 minutes till the raw smell of palak disappears.
