Talippittu (rava)

Talippittu is a traditional havyaka recipe. It is very tasty. It is more like Havyaka Pizza.

Dosa is a traditional Havyaka recipe prepared on almost all days of the week usually for the breakfast in our villages. Preparation for dosa making the starts generally the night before or at least eight hours of time is required. Some commonly prepared types of dosa recipes are uttappammasala dosaridge gourd dosa / heerekayi dosesugarcane juice dosa / kabbina haalina dose etc.  However, there are many variants of dosa which can be prepared in short period of time. Neerdose and rice flour roti - instant / masala akki rotti / talippittu and besan flour instant dosa are such instant havyaka recipes which can be prepared usually within an hour.

Since talippittu containts vegetables it is a nutritious food. Choice of vegetables is left to you, you can customize according to your taste. You may also think of adding carrots, cucumber, coriander leaves additionally. Talippittu can be best enjoyed with coconut chutney. In this recipe, I have also discussed the coconut chutney recipe.

Let us see how to prepare rava talippittu step by step with pictures.

Ingredients:  1 cup = 100 ml

For 5 small dosa: 
  • Rava (chiroti) - 2 cups
  • Capsicum -  1 big
  • Onion - 1
  • Green chilly - 1 to 2
  • Ginger paste-1 teaspoon
  • Grated coconut-1/4 cup
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Salt - according to taste
  • Oil - for cooking
For chutney:
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Green chilly - 1/2 to 1
  • Hing - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - according to tatse
Preparation time: 45 minutes.
Yield: 5 dosa


Method:


Step 1: Chop onions, capsicum, green chillies, ginger, curry leaves. Grate coconut. You may also add coriander leaves.


 Step 2: Add all ingredints to rava (chiroti). And add one tablespoon of rice flour for crispiness. Add salt.  Mix them well (without adding water).



Step 3: Add around 1/4 cup water (don't add too much of water at a time). Consistency should be thicker. 




Step 4. Apply sufficient oil (coconut/sunflower oil...) to banana leaf or thick plastic sheet and prepare talippittu. Make 3-4 holes in talippittu.





Step 5: Apply one teaspoon of oil on tawa. Place talippittu carefully. Apply one teaspoon of oil on talippittu. Close the lid and cook for a minute. Flip to another side and apply one more teaspoon of oil. Cook for one more minute. 


Step 6: For preparing chutney, grind grated coconut, green chilly, hing, salt and sufficient water.


Step 7: Enjoy!


Tips:
  • Consistency of dough is important.
  • Apply oil in sufficient quantity.
  • While others are eating it as soon as you take it out from tawa, ensure that dosa are left for you as well :)
