Tamarind Thokku / hunase hannina tokku

  • Tamarind (ripened / unripened) - 7 to 8
  • Methi seeds/ fenugreek seeds - 2 teaspoons
  • Green chillies - 4 medium
  • Hing - 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - according to taste
  • Oil - 1 table spoon



Step 1. Remove outer skin of tamarind (remove seeds if ripened) and chop roughly.

Step 2. In a thick bottomed pan/kadai, on LOW flame, add oil (1 tbl spoon), then add tamarind, green chillies and hing. Roast for few minutes till raw smell of tamarind disappears. Then allow it to cool.

Step 3. In another pan, on LOW flame, roast methi seeds (2 teaspoons) till gets aroma or color changes. Allow it to cool.

Step 4. Blend roasted methi seeds to fine powder.

Step 5. Pour cooked and cooled tamarind mixture to mixy jar along with powdered methi. Add salt (according to taste). Blend again to fine paste.
