Karji kaayi
  • Wheat flour - 1 cup
  • Chiroti rava - 1/2 cup
  • Ghee - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Jaggery - 1/2 cup
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil for deep frying ( I used sunflower oil)


Step 1: In thick bottomed kadhai, add grated coconut and jaggery. Keep it on medium flame. As jaggery melts add ghee. Stir occasionally. As this mixture thickens, stir continuously till this mixture stops sticking to the bottom of kadhai. Turn off the stove.

 Step 2: Roast sesame seeds till you get aroma in a separate vessel. Pour it to the mixture. Mix well  and keep aside for cooling.

Step 3: Soak chiroti rava in water (add almost equal amount of water) for 10 minutes. Then add wheat flour and salt - chapati consistency.

Step 4: Roll like puri (should be thin) after preparing small lemon sized balls. 

 Step 5: Put around 1 tablespoon of mixture that we have prepared on puri and fold as shown in the picture. Packing should be tight or else this will open while frying. You may cut the border of puri.

Step 6: Deep fry till golden brown colour.
