Raw banana palya / balekayi sambar palya
  • Raw banana - 2 (big)
  • Urad dal - 1 tspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tspoon
  • Curry leaves - 1 strand
  • Hing - 1/2 tspoon(powder)
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Oil - 1 tspoon
  • Sugar/ jaggery - 1 tspoon
  • Salt - according to taste
For masala:
  • Grated coconut - 1 to 2 tbl spoons
  • Coriander seeds - 1.5 tspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tspoon
  • Red chilly - 1 or more
  • Tamarind - kabuli chana sized ball
Step 1. Wash raw bananas, cut its both sides and pressure cook for 1 whistle. It should not be too cooked.

Step 2. Allow it to cool. Peel its outer skin. (you can use its outer skin for making gojju). Chop roughly.

Step 3. Prepare masala. Grind grated coconut along with coriander seeds(1.5 tspoon), cumin seeds(1 tspoon), tamarind (small chana sized ball), red chilly(1 or more) in little quantity of water (water is optional).

Step 4. In a thick bottomed kadai, on low flame, heat oil then add urad dal(1 tspoon), mustard seeds(1 tspoon), curry leaves(1 strand), hing(1/2 tspoon). Saute well till mustard splutters. Then add a pinch of turmeric powder.

Step 5. Now add cooked and chopped raw banana. Add salt(according to taste), sugar/jaggery(1 tspoon) and mix carefully.

Step 6.  Add prepared masala to it and mix well.

Step 7. Close lid and cook for 2 minutes on low flame. 
Step 8. Enjoy!
