Kadle Kalu Usuli / Kadle Usuli

Usuli is a healthy evening food. It can be prepared from Kabuli chana/desi chana/chana daal etc. Here I used Kabuli Chana.

Kabuli chana(kadle) /Desi kadle - 2 cups,
Grated coconut - 1/4 cup,
Green chilly- 1/2 (you can add more),
Onion - 1 tbl spoon (optional),
Grated ginger - 1/2 tspoon (optional),

For seasoning:
Urad dal- 1 tspoon,
Hing - 1 tspoon,
Mustard seeds- 1 tspoon,
Curry leaves - 1 strand,
Oil - 2 tspoons.

Step 1:Soak Kabuli kadle for at-least 3 hours. After soaking, cook it in a cooker by adding sufficient salt and water (2 whistles), drain water from kabuli kadle and keep aside.

Step 2:  In mixy bowl, add grated coconut+green chilly+onion. Grind it into coarse paste (grind just for about five seconds)

Step 3: In a kadai, heat oil on low flame (low flow till the end- step 7), add urad dal,hing,mustard seeds,curry leaves. Fry till mustard splutters.

Step 4: Add ginger and fry well till raw smell of ginger disappears.

Step 5: Add ground coarse paste to it, add a pinch of salt and fry for a minute.

Step 6: Add cooked and drained kabuli to it, mix well and close lid for a minute.

Step 7: Open lid, switch off stove and add lemon juice(remove seeds), mix well.
