Banana mangalore buns

Buns are very tasty breakfast/snack option which are liked by many. Whenever bananas ripen at a time, you can use them for preparing buns. In fact, more the bananas ripen better it is, buns become softer. Hence the fermentation step is very important.

Ingredients (1 cup = 250 ml):

  • ripened banana - 5
  • sugar- 3 tablespoons
  • curd - 3 teaspoons 
  • wheat flour - about 3 cups depending upon the consistency
  • salt - according to taste
  • oil - for deep frying

Preparation time: 5 hours
Yield : 10-13 buns


Step 1: Peel ripened bananas.

Step 2. And then mash the bananas.

Step 3. Add sugar, curd and salt. 

Step 4. Mix well till sugar dissolves.

Step 5. Now add wheat flour. Knead well and eave it overnight (or at least 4 hours).

Step 6. Next morning, prepare balls and flatten with roller into poori. You can use oil or dust with wheat flour.

Step 7. Deep fry both sides till buns turn golden brown in colour.

Step 8. Enjoy with chutney/saagu/ baaji.

  • Ripened bananas make better buns.
  • Using curd helps in fermentation and makes buns soft and pluffy. If you are using curd, no need to use baking soda.
